Post Iris Awards Print Judging.

Another year has past, well not in that sense. It’s the end of June, so it’s half way through 2019 already. I am referring to the NZIPP Iris Awards that were held in Wellington last week. I was privileged to be a judge this year and also a panel chair assistant. I enjoyed being on the panel more than being a judge. Panel Chair is the team that chooses the judges and keeps the event flowing, keeping challenges to a minimum, co-ordinating between the judging room and print handlers out back in the engine room. It was a busy few days and probably the most rewarding experience in NZIPP.

It was also the first time I had chance to wear my white Grand Master ribbon at an event. I became NZIPP’s 13th Grand Master last year, so was very proud indeed to wear it. The image that was lucky enough to achieve Gold last year (my 6th Gold for Grand Master) was the Rock Head Land that I captured in Kawhia. It also gained a Gold Medal (and Maadi Trophy for champion monochrome image for the third time) in this years National Exhibition in Wellington with the Photographic Society of NZ in April. As a Grand Master I was asked to supply an image for one of the speakers at this years NZIPP Conference. You’ve guessed it, the Head Land image was the one I offered. apparently it was one of the first images to be chosen. I’m not sure yet who has it now, but pleased it was sort after.

I didn’t enter the awards myself. The past few months have seen some dramatic changes, so awards was way down on the list. Incidentally, with the NZIPP points reshuffle and reallocation of honours, I have now achieved a Gold Bar to my Grand Master.
Now that life is a bit quieter now I can spend time on my website and topping up the shops with images. If the snow hangs around, perhaps some new images too. It’s been a while.

Website overhaul

Well, it’s about time I did something with my website, I had let it slip way too long. Now I can update images and blogs as I wish so hopefully things will come together quickly. I have spent the last month working new images so they will see the light of day pretty soon. As a New Plymouth Taranaki photographer, it is important to have a good web presence. It’s great to showcase my landscape and fine art images.

Australia AIPP APPA Awards

The images that I entered into the APPA awards have been judged and I delighted with gaining three Silver with Distinctions and a Silver Award out of the four images. I entered last in 2010 when I gained three Silver Awards, I am very happy to see that I have improved over that time.

NZIPP Iris Awards 2015 – Creative Category Finalist

This year at the NZIPP Iris Awards I achieved a Gold Award, three Silver Awards and three Bronze Awards.

I gained my third Gold Bar to my Fellow and also went on to become a Category Finalist in the Creative Section.

PSNZ NatEx 2015 – Gold Medal & Maadi Cup

I was fortunate in achieving the Highest scoring Mono image in this year’s PSNZ National Exhibition,

being awarded a PSNZ Gold Medal and receiving the Maadi Cup for 2015.
